Hyperpop is about gender expression, internet culture, and having a super “kinetic” way to feel a beat. The late SOPHIE xeon is the cornerstone of the collection, specifically the album 'Oil of Every Pearl’s Un-Insides,' which inspired fabrics, makeup and the vivacious color scheme. the designer also draws from the art form of drag as a true example of gender expression. everyone has a role that they perform in everyday life - gender. Gender is entirely performative, and the collection illustrates how things like voice modulation and abstraction can help to combat things like gender dysphoria and societal norms.
this dress is the designer's rejection of gender expectations. Drag not only breaks those gender barriers, but it revels in them. a juxtaposition between the model's hairy chest and a feminine bubble-hem dress in this checker-water print was a good way of showing this. This glitchy pattern helps accentuate the bust and the huge shape at the bottom is amorphous and playful.
This is a sheer pink organza and chiffon dress with dupioni silk hearts thrown throughout. One of the biggest themes within hyperpop and drag is just love, love for each other, for art, and for life. SOPHIE's album, 'Oil of Every Pearl's Un-Insides,' is an anagram of the phrase "I love everyone's insides." the designer was inspired by this theme of self-love turned outwards for everyone to enjoy. Autumn, the model, had a wonderful mindset about wanting to show more of herself to the world.
This is a vinyl jacket with holographic hearts on the trim connected by spikes paired with a plaid pleated pant. The designer really enjoys the shades of purples and pinks. The pant adds some complexity and contrast to the jacket. The harness belt bra was made by the designer's boyfriend, @its.nxthing on Instagram. The model, Jade, is a drag queen and trans woman who inspires the designer with her creativity.
This long, pink trench has heart rhinestones throughout, accompanied with a chrome jean pant and harness made by the designer's boyfriend, @its.nxthing. falling in love with this blue chrome fabric, the designer thinks one of the biggest themes within hyperpop and drag is how light catches and reflects off objects, which this fabric does in a very alluring way.
This blue and pink trench coat is paired with a neoprene swimsuit and a vinyl plaid pant. The vinyl jacket also splits up at the seams towards the bottom, making it perfect to twirl around in. These pants were the hardest to make for the designer because there were many pieces to cut out and assemble! amorphous shapes and abstraction are a huge part of hyperpop iconography, so the designer was inspired to find a print that reflected that. "the model, Mason, is also a gorgeous person who brings a very androgenous vibe," says the designer.
a pink margharita dress with a rhinestone-encrusted vinyl rose and longsleeve neoprene top with pearl embellishments. The pearl is a call to SOPHIE once more, and the go-go hyper-femme silhouette is very drag. It only felt right for there to be something absolutely encrusted in stones in this collection. The model is @ednamwah, one of the designer's drag family members.
